Wärtsilä is a global leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets. By emphasing technological innovation and total efficiency, Wärtsilä maximises the environmental and economic performance of its customer’s vessels and power plants.
Wärtsilä was migrating their order specification management tool to Teamcenter platform and wanted to use this as an opportunity to enhance the tool’s UX. The existing system consisted of several tools all of which covered only part of the process – project engineers using the system were required to access and transfer data between these tools. Wärtsilä wanted to streamline the work flow and provide a tool matching the project engineers’ needs and expectations.
To achieve the goals of the project, we first interviewed project engineers to understand their tasks, needs and issues. In addition we interviewed technical experts to gain further insight and to understand any technical restrictions of the Teamcenter platform. This enabled cost efficient development of the new tool.
We then created designs using iterative cycles, continuously validating them with project engineers. This continuous validation ensured that the project remained clearly focused on project engineers’ needs from start to finish.
The resulting user-centric design delivered an integrated solution for project engineers. It allows them to use Wärtsilä’s order specification management system to efficiently and effectively complete their tasks. Easier navigation and automated data transfers also reduce errors and increase customer satisfaction.
